Bern is an unemployable hack who found political campaigns brought him income (they always pay the candidates!), sweetheart deals, and "gifts".

He's collected enough dough (still may be, as I don't think he officially suspended his campaign, just laid off a bunch of staffers) to pay off some of his wife's mistakes and liability and set himself up for a long time. now he just needs to write a book (it better be short and use small words for the occupy crowd, and be cheap) to finish off the heist.
