Had a recruit pop a door once on a bldg search. He didn't know the door was on a spring and it came back at him. He shot through the door.
His FTO didn't say sh*t. They got in the car, he drove to the station, and kicked him out. It takes a level of restraint.
I was conducting a bldg search on an open door. Newly annexed part of the city and we had no owner info on file to call them. Started the search and first door we popped was into living quarters the business owner built right into the commercial bldg.
Guy's wife was 6' from me standing at the stove cooking bacon. Assessment. It was a surprise to me and the officer whose district it was and who had found the open door. But she was not shot, so she and I had that going for us.
