Putin is a dictator, Trump is an autocrat who has a fixation for liking other dictators. No reason to think otherwise that he'll let Putin do what he wants.

And Putin wants to reestablish the Russian Empire which was given up by Gorbachav. He's taken Crimea, want the rest of Ukraine. Along with the Baltics to create a land bridge to Kaliningrad, the former East Prussia that the Soviets quickly purged the Germans from.
