refused to listen to the rank and file.

The Tea Party was the start, they were listening to the people while the GOP continued with business as usual.

The GOP leadership has run out their candidates the past two election cycles even though the electorate was not interested in moderate candidates. This time around they ignored the party candidates and elected their choice. All the injuries to the party are self inflicted and their stupid effort to do an end run around Trump this week did not help matters. The voters no longer trust the party leadership. The party has to fix that and it will probably take a house cleaning to make it happen.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
