but he's often asked to speak/debate these things because he is really intelligent on the subjects, but also because he's able to explain things to the general public better. same with Neil deGrasse Tyson (although he has way more education than Nye). Tyson is just one of many astrophysicists, but not many can explain things the way he can to people without a lot of knowledge on certain topics.

nobody is asking Nye for answers to in-depth questions necessarily, he's just a spokesman that people tend to enjoy hearing talk, and they can understand what he's saying.
