2 or 5 ranked teams to win the SECT. But in reality, nobody that would have to play 5 will get there, and unlikely anybody with only a single bye will either.
Leaving 2 or 3 ranked opponents as the most likely options.
2, because it’s quite possible that a couple teams drop from the rankings over the next couple weeks, or there is an early upset in the SECT.
The example was given of Bama playing only 1 ranked team to get to the Final Four. That’s a bit uncommon. But to win the tournament, they’d have to play 2 more.
So, in the hardest year ever of the SEC, winning the tournament is almost certainly three ranked opponents in three games.
Compared to the NCAA tournament where the typically easiest possible path looks like three ranked opponents in six games.
It’s an interesting talking point but it’s not really 100% true.
