It is absolutely not vital to a school’s reputation. There are lots of colleges with better academic reputations than MU that are not AAU. They are typically more focused on undergrad education. And Iowa State is still a better school to go to than Mizzou for agriculture and many engineering majors. Or as I like to call them, productive pursuits. MU is elite at …. journalism.
