There is such a thing as community college and HS-college credit
I had to slow down my program to 12 hours/semester so I could work my way through 40hrs/week job and pay the bills. 5 year program as a result even with 25 credits from HS. Took community college fill in classes at night during the summer. Sucked I couldn't party 24/7 on dad's dime
Had multiple jobs most of the time to pay the bills & ramen noodles. Went to MU instead of WashU because I received more scholarship $$ and it cost less.
It can still be done
I am all for this 401K-type payback program but I don't understand the need for loans, especially the $40K+ most end up with. State U is fine and you can always go to an upper end grad school later.
Daughter just made it through without loans, yes we paid a little but most was scholarships and work. She may have had $10K in loans if she did it all alone in 4 years but probably could still have been debt free in 5 doing it herself
Second kid went to community college because they didn't have enough scholarships to make going 4-year sensible.
The third kids wants to go away and is more than motivated watching what happened with the two older ones
