#5 Tennessee thrashed #19 Kentucky 84-58 at home. Rhyne Howard scored 24 but didn’t get much help, and Tennessee pounded them on the boards 50-29. A key was UK shooting just 4-18 from beyond the 3 point line while Tennessee hit 10-20. I still think Kentucky will play their way back to about a 5-6 seed, they have had as tough a start as anyone in SEC play, with SC and Tennessee on the road and Georgia at home in a 1-2 start.

#1 SC won @ Arkansas 61-52, in an entertaining game. SC was up 20 at the 7 minute mark of the 3rd quarter before Arkansas fought their way back in it, and they were only down 4 points with 4 minutes to go in the game. Then SC scored the next 8 points to close them out. Still a good effort by the Hogs. Like all perimeter teams, live by the sword, die by the sword, Arkansas shot only 28% from the field, and hit only 7/29 3 point shots (24%). SC leads the nation in rebound margin (Tennessee is #2), and they pounded them on the boards 45-25.

#12 LSU took care of Vandy at home 82-64 as expected.

Ole Miss pounded rival Miss St at home 86-71, in a game not nearly as close as the final score. Ole Miss led by 32 points entering the 4th quarter, before Miss St made it closer in garbage time. Ole Miss moves to 15-2, 3-1, although they have had a fairly easy early schedule with wins over Florida, Alabama and Miss St, and a loss to Tennessee. They have a much tougher stretch coming up which will tell us how good they really are, with road games against TAMU and Kentucky, Georgia, @ Missouri, and LSU. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them go 1-4 in that stretch, but maybe they’ll prove me wrong.

In the battle of winless SEC teams, TAMU beat Auburn at home 71-53, moving to 1-4 in SEC play, dropping Auburn to 0-5. I’m looking to see TAMU make a run to try and pull their season back together, as things stand right now they are right where they deserve to be, squarely on the bubble and in danger of not even making the NCAA tourney.

Finally, Florida won on the road at Alabama 85-77, outscoring them by 11 in the 4th quarter to come from behind. That’s 2 road wins for them as they improve to 13-5, 2-2, not bad for a team that is near the bottom of the conference, had their abusive coach fired/retired right before the season started, and recently lost their top scorer to a season ending injury.
