drive the lane. That does not make it a good idea.
Getting the ball in the lane is not actually the goal for any offense. Offenses are designed to create open shots for players in spots they are comfortable shooting from.
Playing through your bigs offers a number of advantages. You can run a high low game, once the ball is in the paint it can open numerous cutting lanes and when defenses sag kick outs to open shooters are common. Not every offense is designed to do this but with an experienced big like JT last season it should have been very easy.
We worked the ball to Tilmon a ton last year but I never saw much purpose behind it. Every time a player touches the ball he should know his options. I did not see an offense last year that players seemed to understand. We either ran a very poor offense, the offense was too complex for our players or it was a very poorly coached offense.
