Few will remember how good of a player and dominant rebounder Curtis Berry was, and how he tore up his knee slipping on a ku cheerleader’s Pom Pon underneath the basket during the Big 8 tournament. But that begat Mark Dressler’s amazing his run as a backup during the NCAA tournament that year. He had one of the greatest Mizzou performances of all time with 32 points against Notre Dame. Had we had both, we should have defeated LSU and gone to the Final 4. Who knows how Norm would have handled the minutes?
Losing Dressler the next season was brutal. I would put Berry at #5 and Dressler at #4.
I would put Bowers at #3. He was likely the missing piece to keep us rolling.
#2 Kelly Thames had the greatest freshman season in our history in my opinion. Rich Daly has said he was potentially as good as Scottie Pippen. With current medical technology, he would have had a long NBA career.
#1 for sure is a combination of the Porter brothers. I need say no more. Eat more meat.
