more valued fan than half the alumni.

In particular, if you attend the games then you're an MVP of the fan base. For those who can't attend the games due to geographic or financial reasons, there are still many ways to contribute. For example, buying & wearing Mizzou gear around town, making donations to the AD (if possible), actively following & supporting the teams on social media, and subscribing to the SEC Network and tuning in for all the games. If you do most of those things then you are a valued member of the fan base.

The clown posting below about a degree being a prerequisite to root for your state's school, is so off-base it makes me suspect he has an agenda. The bottom line is that Mizzou represents the state of Missouri and all Missourians. So if you live in MO, were born or raised in MO, or your "family roots" are in MO, then MIZZOU represents you... and vice versa.

It's no different than St. Louisans rooting for the Cards, and Kansas Citians rooting for the Chiefs.
