He came in by far the lowest regarded and with the least expectations in his 5 man class of Linas Klieza, Thomas Gardner, Jason Conley, Randy Pulley, and himself.
He did have some decent programs offer him if I recall other than MU. Believe we signed him over NC State and Minnesota, and SMS I think offered him too. He almost came to MU as a walkon, and then that wasn't necessary:

Missouri is heavily involved with a number of top prospects in 2003 including Luol Deng, Olu Famutimi, and Linas Kleiza. Missouri has two more scholarships left, not including Laurie's commitment. Laurie said he would be willing to walk on next year if Missouri needed him to.
"If they want to get two more guys in the program that would help them, then I will walk on," Laurie said. "We all decided whatever's best for the program is what I will do."
