I think you missed my point on WSU, they broke through and then stuck around long enough to be relevant. Now that Marshall is gone I suspect them to disappear again.
You are actually helping me to make my point though. The NCAA is a coach-driven league just like the NFL is a QB-driven league. With bad coaching even blueblood programs fade away, see Indiana and to a lesser extent Georgetown. But with a great coach, obscure programs become relevant for a time, VCU and WSU.
Why are we settling for a mediocre coach knowing that a great, or even good, coach could revive this program in just a couple of years?
