You are over-generalizing the term "athleticism." What part of athleticism are you talking about? Quickness? Jumping ability? Even body build and length or muscle fiber recruitment relates to athleticism. From what I saw, Watson was a good defender because of how he was able to follow his assignment and understand what the offensive player was trying to do. It wasn't because he was quick or powerful. He didn't get steals, he didn't get blocks. He was just a solid defender.
Mitch and Parker were not strong enough to play in the lane against SEC competition. It wasn't that they weren't being used properly. Often, one of them would pull down an offensive rebound and have to kick it out or get the put back blocked because they lack the strength to get through defenders. Yet somehow, you say they were being used incorrectly. That's just wrong. They lacked the skillset to have more than one dimension to their offensive game.
