Last nights game was thoroughly enjoyable to watch and that has been true of this teams late season games. Yet in most games losing seems almost inevitable. The difference in this MU team and most of the other SEC teams is not vast but this current team now has the feel of a group firmly in the bottom third of the SEC.
Blackwell now probably stands as the only player on the roster who is solidly an above average SEC player. As I posted earlier, if last nightsversion of Blackwell is what she is to become than she is one of the very best in the conference.
Last night ...it’s impossible to win with that discrepancy in number of free throws attempted.
MU can’t possibly move up with the current defense they play. Packing it in to help on the interior may seem like the percentage play to Pingeton , but it really only serves to keep the games closer .
Their gonna have to pressure the ball and guard the perimeter some day.
It was mentioned last night and was obvious from the start that playing post defense behind the post up player was failing, and they never did try and front the post.
It is me or is there a trend that in the 4th quarter when we are close there are a series of possessions where we lose focus and have bad trips and poor shots.
Looking to next year... and how to win a few more games. Well we have Blackwell . I’ve personally have been all over the place on Dickson , mostly negative, but if she returns, and if the staff could get her to buy into what they need from her she looks like the 2nd key player to me.
I would fully agree with Blue on Frank . Maybe in the best of worlds Dorroh comes in next year and takes a good portion of Frank’s minutes. Improvement at that spot might be the easiest thing to get done next year. Frank is a very good shooter but they have to get more from that wing.
Dembele might grow into better than average at the point ?
Did it feel like Troup was getting squeezed out a bit in the last couple of games. She really accomplished more than I thought she might at the point/ off guard, but on a better team next year she might be better off the bench.
On Williams , I doubt even the staff knows what to expect or where to turn. I suppose she is still not 100% but last night was beyond bad. Williams is to weak to mix it up or really even to score when she gets bodied up. I’d posted last week that they now seemed to run better offense without her , but they have to have a post player don’t they?
Best case for next season.... Dorroh comes in ready to play and becomes the third best player ...a rebounding , above average defensive post player magically turns up and Williams gets spotted play...and Dickson returns ( the best version of Dickson ) and averages 12-15 a game.
If all that happens I think their a tournament ream .
