They were bought by Ameritrade around 2002-ish then became TD-Ameritrade
I remember placing a trade back then and watching the list of potential suitors (hundreds each way vs the current price) scroll until your order was picked up as the new market level.. Also hoping AOL America Online didn't hiccup. Times have changed in a little over 20 years
