its not even valid metrics during the noncon because it requires accumulating in season metrics to derive valid values. Its not possible to know when compiling schedules which mid and low major program will have what eventual end of year kenpom metrics.
Coaches don't look at things like that. Their objective in the noncon is to prepare for conference play and establish a rotation. Playing true road games against what they perceive to be quality opponents with quality coaches accomplishes that. Not playing interesting matchups for the fans.
I would be astounded if Cuonzo would not prefer to play Temple on the road than SLU in St. Louis 10 times out of ten. To the degree I would question his aptitude and long term viability if he were to answer otherwise.
