We go to 3 straight NCAA tournaments, then have a 9-22 season, and it’s like people think we fell off the end of the earth and the program has been shut down.
AP preseason poll came out and has the top 5 SEC teams all in the top 14: SC, Miss St, UK, TAMU, Arky. The only other SEC team to get any votes was Tennessee, with a single vote, meaning one person ranked them #25 in their poll. 39 teams got votes in the AP poll, but not Mizzou.
Now College Sports Madness is doing their top 44 countdown, and Mizzou doesn’t even make their top 44. The 5 SEC powerhouses do of course, and so does Georgia at 31, LSU at 34, and Tennessee at 40. Now CSM usually has some head scratchers, but they align pretty well with the AP poll generally, with the same teams in the top 25 as the AP poll, with some differences in order. Their bonehead move this year was not putting South Dakota in their top 44; the AP has them just outside their top 25, receiving votes at #27.
And recently ESPN picked Alabama as the SEC team to make the biggest jump this year.
Will be interesting to see how Mizzou fares in the SEC preseason poll picked by the coaches. Have any of them been paying attention to the talented transfers playing this year? Or our promising freshman class? Or will we be picked in the 10-11 range, behind not just the 5 heavyweights but also UT, GA, LSU, and Bama?
We are going to surprise a lot of people this year, I’m very confident of that.
