For any sport where partial scholarships exist, the majority of players are still spending a decent amount of money to play college sports, and there isn't a lucrative professional career set to follow.

I know if I were in that situation and had the choice between getting a job and getting paid vs. dedicating another year to playing college sports and taking out more debt to do it, I'd have to think long and hard about the decision. The only way I'd come back is if my team had a legitimate shot at winning a national title.

I do think the NCAA should provide athletes with that option, but many will decline and move on.
