MU was 16-16 and had no players on the roster who had ever avged more than 13 ppg heading into 2008-09, and had just dismissed their best player in Stephon Hannah. Top incoming recruit was Marcus Denmon who was ranked somewhere around 130th nationally. We hadn't been to the NCAA tourney in the prior 5 seasons and hadn't finished higher than 5th in conference in 9 seasons.
We then set the all time MU record with 31 wins, won the Big 12, and advanced to the Elite Eight. That is what makes sports fun.
