the shots defenses want us to take, because they are low quality shots that don't cause the defense to work hard or adjust.
Good quality shots are shots that have a good chance of being converted and who is taking them and what you made the defense do to prior to taking them matters. Its not defined by where they are taken on the court.
Since this seems so hard to grasp from a shooting perspective, change it to passing. If Phil Pressey flies down the lane and dumps off a no look pass to Ratliffe which he converts that is a great pass. If Phil Pressey does the exact same thing but the envisioned recipient is Steve Moore and so it is fumbled out of bounds that isn't Moore's fault....that same play isn't a good pass. You have to know who is the recipient and everything else going on rather than look at the pass itself in isolation.
Mitchell Smith taking an open 3 pter is a bad shot 100% of the time, even if he makes it. Because that is exactly what the defense wants us to do on that possession.
