The athletic department benefits greatly financially. That has yet to translate to anything on the field/court though (other than the two east championships when that division was down and arguably with recruits from the B12 era).
I would have preferred going to the B10. Some of the best public universities in the US reside in that conference. I'd much prefer a rise in Mizzou's academic ranking (where we have fallen precipitously) than the commencement of a football dynasty. That would be a bigger boost to the economy and well being of the state than having a winning program in football.
FYI. I am not a fan of the state of Texas and I'm more than a little familiar with their history. I actually really do not like Texas at all. For the most part, I find it boring with oppressive heat and humidity. I don't have an issue, however, with UT Austin. I am very familiar with the university and grudgingly admit that it's a pretty impressive institution.
