mark my words.
If you look at the voting you can see the coaches see basically 4 tiers in SEC softball in 2020:
Tier 1: Bama, Tennessee, LSU (117-143 pts)
Tier 2: Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, Arky (80-101)
Tier 3: Ole Miss, SC, Mizzou, Auburn (52-62)
Tier 4: Miss St, TAMU (22 pts each)
My sense right now is that Bama is the overwhelming favorite because of their pitching, and then after that it is going to be a real crapshoot for the next 8 positions in the standings. Not sold at all on LSU, Kentucky, and Florida finishing in the top 5.
Mizzou will finish ahead of Ole Miss, SC, Auburn, Miss St, and Auburn, so, no worse than 8th, and could conceivably finish as high as in the 5-7 range. That depends of course on a young and unproven pitching staff coming through and making an impact. I think Coach Anderson is really going to show her talent this year and have Mizzou playing both loose, and with a chip on their shoulder from the sanctions, with nothing to lose. She will have the team playing every SEC series as if it’s an NCAA regional, since we won’t have a real regional to go to.
It’s really a lot of informed (and uninformed) guesswork at this point, since so many teams are relying on new players, both freshmen and transfers. But I’m feeling pretty positive right now. We will finish somewhere in the 5-8 range in the SEC, not 10th, and will break into the top 4 next year, which by definition will translate to a top 16 national seed and home regional.
