What I was hoping would happen after Sophie was signed, along with several others, is that Coach RP would follow that up with strong classes each and every year after that, so when this once in a generation type player left, there was a solid foundation of upperclassmen to continue the momentum built here during the SC years.

For whatever reason, that clearly didn’t happen. The cupboard is nearly bare, at the very time it needed to be well stocked.

That’s what I was trying to say about RP not taking full advantage of having Sophie here.

Why did this happen? I don’t think there is any one answer. Probably a combination. Poor recruiting, yes. A lack of elite talent, and probably some misjudgments on some recruits. Also some close misses on girls who could have really helped the program and mitigated to a great extent this seasons train wreck. Add to that transfers of key players, some starters, and some who would have added key depth. RP had a remarkable run of pretty much never having transfers throughout her time here, and certainly not of any key players, and that started falling apart last year.

All that led to the shocking lack of talent on this team, at least the type of talent needed to survive and thrive in the SEC and on the national scene.
