But they aren't playing tonight.
Its hard to make much of a judgement about the team when Tyler Adams, John Brooks, Christian Pulisic, Tyler Boyd, and Weston McKennie are all on the bench. They are the 5 best players we have.
Altidore is decent when he is healthy. Bradley is unfortunately probably better than the other options at that position in the way that Berhalter is using it right now. Many believe that Tyler Adams can play that role but Berhalter wants a different type of player for the #6 so he slots Adams in a hybrid right back role when he is healthy. Wil Trapp is a terrible option there.
Paxton Pomykal (U-20/FC Dallas) is only 19. He had a tremendous U20 world cup in May and is an MLS all star. He will likely be headed to Europe soon and is someone to keep an eye on for the defensive midfield role currently held by Bradley.
We do need more forward options but Josh Sargent is the long term plan for the #9 position. He is 19 and played with Werden Bremen in the Bundesliga all year but sat on the bench. I think Berhalter chose not to select him so he could work with his team to break into the starting lineup this year. Hopefully he gets a bunch of time in the bundesliga this year and firmly stakes his claim to the #9 shirt going into next summer.
If Sargent can't make it work at the #9 then we will have to keep an eye on Sebastian Soto.
