but like much of these later seasons, the good stuff is all payoff when the setup isn't as clean. There's no second act to anything, and characters often act out of character to get them quickly to the point that's needed for that payoff.
It doesn't make the end result bad...it just isn't as cohesive as the show has been at its heights, and maybe that's a function of the showrunners only knowing the endgame for all the plot points and not how to get there.
Felt the similarly about how Littlefinger was handled. His end was satisfying for sure...but man did that whole "conflict" he tried to engineer between Sansa and Arya look really dumb in comparison to all the other schemes he had come up with.
