in 5th place.

When Kentucky and Auburn play their third game tomorrow, a UK win will have them flip places with us and put us back in 6th place, and an Auburn win will put them in a tie with us for 5th with 10-8 records.

But yes it was a good day for us: we want Kentucky and Georgia in particular to finish strong and drive their RPIs as high as they can, since we own 5 wins over them.

After Bama, the SEC race is still wide open from 2nd to 10th place, with 9 teams having 6-10 losses, and most of them still having 6 games left. If any one of those 9 teams gets hot and runs the table or nearly runs the table, they can easily finish in the top 4 in the conference.

Case in point, LSU is currently alone in 2nd place at 14-7, with only 3 games left. But those games are against Bama, who clearly separated themselves from the rest of the SEC this weekend by sweeping Florida on the road. And LSU just lost a series 2-1 to Arky. Their 14-7 record is going to likely be 14-10, or 15-9 at best, once they run into Bama. If we run the table, we will finish at 16-8. I don’t think that will happen, but we can hope.

I think there are going to be a ton of teams that finish in the 9-11 loss range this year, and 1 or 2 of them could still end up in the top 4 in the conference, and with a strong finish we can be one of them.
