I thought last week that the likely destinations, if we don’t get flown to the West Coast, which is pretty much a death sentence, would be Norman, Stillwater, or Evanston. The latter two of course would give us a fighting chance to get to the super regionals and would be far more preferred than playing Oklahoma.

Ok State is still a strong contender for a national seed in the 13-16 range. They were off this weekend but had a nice win mid-week over a quality Tulsa team. However, they close their regular season against Texas Tech and Oklahoma. A great opportunity to solidify a seed if they, say, go 3-0 or 2-1 against Tech and steal one game against the Sooners. Or they could easily lose 4-5 of those 6 games and suffer.

Northwestern though, who I would also strongly prefer playing as opposed to most of the other potential destinations, is almost certain not to host, and it has nothing to do with their record. I’ve read elsewhere that they will not host a regional (even if they get a national seed), because of their sub-standard facilities, including an apparent deal breaker of not having lights. In the past when this came up even bringing in temporary portable lights was not allowed by the NCAA.

There is precedent for this, seeded Cal and I believe Washington teams had to travel to the site of another team in their regional because their facilities at the time did not meet the minimum NCAA requirements to host.

The jackpot for Mizzou would be if Northwestern got a national seed, but the regional is held in Columbia MO if we are the #2 seed.
