In an effort to create more quality games during non-conference play, the Southeastern and The American conferences have joined forces to form a scheduling alliance. As a part of this alliance, four schools from each conference will participate in two-year, home-and-home series that will begin in the 2019-20 season.

"Men's basketball in the SEC has been on the rise and this scheduling alliance will help to continue the growth of the sport," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. "This will provide four high quality games for both leagues during non-conference play."

Seven SEC teams were selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament this past season with four advancing the Sweet 16, two to the Elite Eight and one to the Final Four. The SEC has had 15 NCAA Tournament selections over the past two years and every team in the league has appeared in the tournament over the last five years. The American set a conference record in 2019 with seven teams advancing to postseason play, including four NCAA Tournament teams. Three of those NCAA teams won at least one game in tournament.

Participating teams and matchups will be announced at a later date.
