Structural issues limit attendance

1. College football game attendance, including the SEC, has declined steadily over the past four or five seasons. If memory serves the percentage decline is relatively small, but the trend is clear.

2. Mizzou fans simply do not care as deeply about Tiger football as the fans at a lot of SEC schools. It is a cultural difference.

3. Missouri's population centers are 100 miles and roughly 2 hours away from Columbia. Those numbers can be easily doubled or tripled for some parts of the state.

4. Mizzou plays a relatively unattractive home schedule. Three of the non-conference games are against lower level programs. The one P5 nonconference game is seldom against a good P5 teams. Tiger fans don't care enough about Tiger football to show up for blow out wins over lower level opponnets.

5. Every home game is on TV and today's media make it easy to watch the game wherever you are or what you're doing. Trekking to Columbia is no longer necessary.

6. Tiger football just isn't that good. I.e. when was the last time it won a conference championship? 2013 was a great season. It's impact carried over to 2014. When will the Tigers repeat those successes, anytime in the foreseeable future or in other words is the young talent at Mizzou good enough to contend for SEC East title?

Mizzou traded being a top half of the conference program in the Big XII, a conference with what at the time seemed to be an iffy financial future, for the security and $$$ of the SEC. The SEC's TV money is great for Mizzou, a number of other things aren't.
