The solar in space concept would be VERY cost prohibitive. The transportation of 1GW would be the equivalent of 2.5 BIlLION acres of panels orbiting the earth (or approximately 2.5 million solar panels that need to be launched into space plus the associated wire, structural steel, inverters etc...
