I get the impression that Sophie may have been timid. She passed up some drives and shots. We have seen her play this way before though. Sometimes the game plan is to get the ball inside first, then if necessary go back out hoping for open looks. We not only saw Sophie do this, but Jordan Roundtree, Lauren Aldridge, and Hayley Troup.
I think the extra passing would have been fine if our players had converted several point blank shots. I remember 7 shots that were nothing more than a layup that were just astonishingly missed. Amber (4) Sophie (1) Ciera (1) Tahane (1). Mizzou could have been up by 20 if we just made some easy shots. They wouldn’t have come back from down that much in my opinion.
One change I’d like to see Coach P try. Play fewer players. She’s playing 11 every game. I get the alternating Porter, Schucts, and Tahane. That gives 7 players in rotation. Then Levy, Berg, and Troup all need to play. That gives 10 players participating. I’d have to leave out Chavis now because she doesn’t have skills the others don’t. It’s hard to keep teamwork going real well playing so many players.
I don’t think the player rotation cost us the Florida game. As I said the blown easy shots were a big cause, and then we kinda panicked in the last few minutes with the turnovers you mentioned. It shouldn’t have been close but at the end the home team had all the momentum. Crappy losses happen and this one was sure bad.
Coach P will have them ready for Georgia.
