a big problem for Pinkel's era and it is getting worse.
The rush and the coverage have to work hand in hand. Gary would play so soft on the corners that smart teams (the fat man) would simply pick him apart for 8 yards at a time with quick hitters before the rush had a prayer of getting there.
The quick passing game gains popularity all the time and QB's hold the ball far less than they used to. Andy Reid has even talked about how he thinks the future of pass rush is up the middle because the distance is less and the guy is in the passing lane already.
There is a lot of talk about spread and RPO these days, but if you watch, something that is very much in vogue is the West Coast offense-type tactics. It's almost as if the real best NFL coach ever, Bill Walsh, knew what he was doing.
