Eventually there will be four 16 team conferences made up of two 8 team divisions. Then there won't be unbalanced scheduling and each conference championship game will serve as the play in to the football national championship. All 4 of the major conferences are ultimately working towards 16 teams. Texas and Notre Dame are currently impeding that from happening, but Texas won't be able to stomach being bypassed by A&M for much longer.
