before the M? I'm sure I've seen clips on youtube or somewhere that showed that. Clips were in b&w so must have been 50s, maybe 60s.

I like your M better than the current tiger. The M is clean and classic looking. However, if you just had a tiger head without the oval, I think that would look good. The oval just makes it look strange. My opinion only. Obviously whatever market research they did found it to be good.
