If the Stull teams had been able to play Missouri State, Middle Tennessee State, Bowling Green, Troy, Idaho, Connecticut, Delaware State, Eastern Michigan, McNeese State, and Miami (OH) instead of Miami (FL) 3-4 times every year, they would have gone to bowl games every year, when it meant something to go to a bowl game.
