Great article in Dallas News:
Riders' lefty OF can get on base
New leadoff batter showing he belongs after being promoted
By RICHARD DURRETT / The Dallas Morning News
Outfielder Jayce Tingler needed a new start. He had played two seasons in Class A for Toronto and wasn't happy with how he was performing.
"I was competing hard and playing hard, but the numbers weren't where I wanted them," said Tingler, taken by Texas in the Rule 5 minor league draft last year. "I spent spring training with the Rangers coaches, and I think that was a big factor in how I'm playing now."
Tingler was promoted to Double-A Frisco earlier this week. He batted .330 with seven extra-base hits and 17 RBIs the first two months of the season at Bakersfield. The Rangers were ready to promote Tingler earlier but didn't have a place for him.
"It simply got to the point that, for Jayce's development, that we could no longer keep him in Bakersfield and found a way to bring him to Frisco," said John Lombardo, director of minor league operations.
Tingler had three hits in his first seven at-bats and is playing left and center field and batting leadoff. He is known as a scrappy, left-handed hitter who gets on base a number of ways. He worked with minor league hitting instructor Brook Jacoby on using his hands more when he hits.
"I've seen a big difference," Tingler said.
Tingler played at Missouri and was a senior when Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler transferred there. Kinsler has followed Tingler's progress and isn't surprised he's moving up the ranks.
"Every time you looked up, he was on base," Kinsler said. "He's a hard worker and does whatever he can to help his team. I'm glad he's playing well."
